Traditional Toys Workshop - Cultural Foundation

  • Learn how to make simple yet beautiful toys from scratch.
  • Take home self-made toys and learn the importance of the forms and materials of the toys they make.

Traditional Pottery Workshop - Cultural Foundation

  • Handle clay and shape it to traditional objects, while learning about the pottery drying process.
  • The shaped pots and objects can be painted using traditional colours (white, brown), and children can leave with their creation.
  • Children can leave with their production in a paper bag.

Sadu-inspired Block Printing Workshop - Cultural Foundation

  • Students will learn about the visual language of Sadu and become familiarised with the motifs, symbols and patterns traditionally used by Emirati weavers.
  • Learn how to create traditional dyes from natural materials such as indigo, saffron and turmeric.
  • Pre-designed and pre-cut printing blocks will be manufactured with a wide array of printed motifs.
  • Using the printed blocks and natural dyes, participants will create their own Sadu-inspired canvas tote bags.

Archaeology – Artefact Dig and Handling - Abu Dhabi Island

  • Delve into the sand pit in which artefacts have been hidden, opposite the entrance of the Fort.
  • Dig in the sand with shovels and sieves looking for the artefacts.
  • Once an artefact is found, children are led to a table with archeology tools to brush off any sand left and draw the found object on a workshop card.
  • Archaeologists will explain their role and how their knowledge informs on how our ancestors lived.

Traditional Architectural Workshop - Abu Dhabi Island

  • Learn about the architecture of traditional houses in the UAE.
  • Engage in hands-on building of traditional houses using foam blocks.
